Life's a Beach

Source: caribjournal.com

This year has been hell. I don't want to talk about how much pain I'm in anymore, especially with my mom's first birthday not on this earth coming up (not to mention Christmas). I've been suffering so much and I know that those who follow me can feel it, though I don't talk about it often.

For this short post; I'd like to focus on some good news.

I got promoted! This happened months back, but I realized I haven't shared this on my blog yet, and I wanted to officially announce it! You're looking at the Chief Administrative Officer of Brassybra :)

After so many jobs where I've worked to myself to the bone for thankless low wages, it is so amazing to be treated kindly, with respect, and to be so appreciated for all my hard work. I've never been more grateful for my work than this year! If the pandemic had happened just a few years ago, I would be out of a job... with little to no prospects. I've spent most of my adult life working in restaurants and I'm doing as much as I can to support the local restaurants of wherever I am these days, and I encourage you to do the same! If you're fortunate enough to have regular work like I am, please tip handsomely and order as often as you can. Especially in NYC, with another shutdown looming on the horizon, please try new food from all the restaurants you can find, if you can! Margins are razor thin in the restaurant industry, and many of the restaurants I've known, or frequented have shut down this year, both in NYC and beyond.

I realize that this post could come off as out of touch, or insensitive, but I would like it to come off as inspiring. With full confidence, I can say that I've earned this, based on years and years of extremely hard work. For the first time in my life, I'll be going to the Caribbean, for work, for a month in January. I'll be working hard, of course, but I'm extremely, extremely grateful to be at this place in my life.

Since I've been 16, I've always had at least two jobs... server and piano teacher. I've also bartended, been a personal assistant and receptionist, owned my own home baking business, nannied, and now I'm a full time administrative manager of a start up, handling everything from social media, to advertising, to admin work to managing other employees in marketing and social media. I'm also still a full time model/influencer. I've been very, very busy. Work has been something to distract me from how difficult it's been to grieve through this national crisis. Cancer is hard enough without the inability to see your friends and walk into a store without fear.

We're going to be doing a photoshoot and other 2021 work prep in ARUBA (the new home of Brassy Inc, or as I like to call it, the Boob-Quarters), so as of Mid January, I'll be on a white sand beach with my computer and camera. I've worked extremely hard to get to this place, so it feels incredible to be fortunate enough to have this opportunity. Stay tuned for my adventures, coming next month!
